What the Land Already Knows

What the Land Already Knows: Winter’s Sacred Days (Stories from the Farm in Lucy) (Loyola Press, 2003)

A read that captures your senses and slows you down into a new way of being with the season. This books invites us to rest while teaching us through true stories of farm & family life in modern times. I have given this book away to friends and revisit it for my own pleasure every year when the ground freezes again.

The Way of the Heart

The Way of the Heart: Connecting with God Through Prayer, Wisdom, and Silence ( Ballantine Books, 2003)

It’s hard to go wrong with the writings of Henri Nouwen when it comes to giving words to the interior movements of the soul’s life. This book is simple and short with a lifetime of thoughts to chew on. I have been reading this book for over a decade, and don’t foresee stopping. Especially in a world of social media and over-sharing, his encouragement to “guard the fire within” has been a safety net and balm to my heart.
